Winter Midreign 2016 - Feb 6 - SSD

It's an 8-bit Midreign!

Join us on the sixth of February to celebrate the mid-point of King Kalevra's 8-bit Reign and to welcome the new Prime Minister to office.

Hosted by the Barony of the Seven Sleeping Dragons at Laguna Lake Park, down at the Barbecue Pavilion, in San Luis Obispo, CA. This midreign will include the required Weapon Master and Dragon Master competitions; however, both tournaments will have twists.

The Weapon Master, being organized by Kingdom Champion Belias, will be ran as the first of this reign's Westmarch Tournament Series tournaments. See the link below for more details on the Westmarch Tournament Series:

The Dragon Master, being organized by Baronetess Squire Leah, will be ran as normal. However, to earn the prestigious Best in Show honor, an item must be deemed to have been made with the theme reign of classic 8-bit gaming in mind. See the link below for more details about the reign theme:

This being a winter midreign event, there shall be hot food available. Kingdom Regent Fiks shall bring to the hungry masses chicken and dumplings, warm and hearty for the cold and potentially wet weather. Though the food will be available for all, a recommended donation of $5 is asked if you partake of the food that our Regent slaved hours over a hot stove for. Ingredients used in the meal will be posted in the event feed.

Tournament sign-ups start at 12:00pm and close at 1:00pm sharp. The competitions start immediately there-after when the organizers are ready. Enjoy the ditchline in the mean time.

In the event of the tournaments wrapping up quickly, battlegames will be called. Unless rains force everyone inside. Or in spite of the rain. Either way: be prepared!

Hope to see everyone there!

After some trials and tribulations (and lots of holidays and post-holidays slacking by yours truly) I am happy to finally announce the exact location for our little shindig.
The Barony of the Seven Sleeping Dragons and the Kingdom of Westmarch invite everyone to join us at the Laguna Lake Barbecue Pavilion in San Luis Obispo. Those of you who have been around a while might remember this as the site of the infamous Holy Grail Quest that SSD hosted years ago.

The pavilion is down by the lake (no swimming!) surrounded by trees. We will hold the Dragon Master competition on the tables under the cover of the pavilion (especially in case of rain) and the fighting will take place on the fields near the pavilion. See the link below for a Google map with a pin on the pavilion's location.

Parking will be available on the road and in the nearby loop. Again, see link below to get an idea of the area. If for some reason the local constabularies decide they'd rather not have us park in these spots, we will make arrangements for people to shuttle to and from the main parking lots closer to Madonna Road.

If you're feeling like the distance is a little much for a day-trip, nearby hotels include a Hotel 6, a Vagabond Inn, the Embassy Suites SLO, and the world famous Madonna Inn, and many more in SLO proper (the former two being the cheaper options it appears).

Hope to see everyone there!

In case you missed the announcement at Midreign court, here are your Dragonmaster scores!

Two entrants this time around: Faye and defending Dragonmaster Ohlanna. The competition between the two was fierce, but after everything was judged, our new Dragon master is the same as the old Dragonmaster: Ohlanna!

Totaling her top five items, Ohlanna's A&S score was 19.26.
Totaling her top five items, Faye's A&S score was 19.24.

Though none of the items really expressed the 8-bit theme, the non-8-bit Best of Show was Faye's quilted gambeson, which featured a liberal application of quilting in the shape of vines and flowers.

Thank you to everyone for making the trip down to the Seven Sleeping Dragons for midreign. Hope you all had a good time with the fighting, food and friends!
