I concur.
And I think our method of participation needs an overhaul. Just asking who wants on the gate list ends up with us submitting quite a few people who either never show, or never do much more than swing some foam and get into fair for free.
The latter part is a long-standing sore point for many people, and I think we should discuss different ways of dealing with it.
Some previous suggestions have been:
Fixed number of slots, let people "bid" for them. Bidding need not involve money. "I'll contribute N loaners", "I'll be on gate duty every day", . Bidding based on what people WILL bring could have issues if they fail to deliver.
Fixed rate per head (yes, money). Feast funds, tent supplies, and so forth would come out of this fund, with lower rates for kids (possibly "free" for under X, where 'x' is something like 4 or 5).
Bar people who haven't contributed in the past.
Form a household that handles fair. There'd be a fair (har) amount of membership overlap with the BOD, but hand it off to some other group, and wash our hands of it. I must admit, that has a certain appeal.
Another idea I just came up with: Have the BOD vote for each and every name we put on the list. Ooh! We could Form A Subcommittee! Let a smaller portion of the BOD deal with the individual names, then we can sign off on the list as a group rather than spending however long on each one.
No matter which method we choose, I think the "sign off on the list as a group" thing should be a part of it, but that's obviously Open To Discussion.
