long sword help

Postby Inurez » Thu Aug 20, 2009 2:07 am

ok, so I found out dollar tree has funoodels or what ever you call them, and I wanted to make a long sword, hopefully before this sunday, but if it takes longer thats fine. now, I was just wondering what the legal dimentions for a red longsword are. If it is in the rule book, youll have to exuse me becuse I think I need corective eye surgery after reading that damn rule book non stop....I would not suggest doing that...

A RED Long sword can be accomplished 2 ways. On make a regular longsword (over 36" and min 2.5" diameter) then use the Barbarian effect "Berserk." Second make a Great sword ( min 60" in length and 4" diameter and 2/3 of the length strike legal) to get up to 4" diameter use Monster noodle (Walmart or CVS might have some) or add layers of camp pad to fun noodle. It was in the definition sections on page 6.
Weapon Effects
A descriptor applied to a weapon that explains what it does. It is possible for a weapon to have multiple effects.
Red A Red Weapon, when swung in a slashing or bludgeoning manner, deals two points of damage and can be used to destroy a shield in three hits. In all cases where a one-handed weapon is red, the weapon or the user must have a red strip to indicate the effect.
Great If a weapon is five feet or more in length, has a minimum of three feet of contiguous striking surface (staves must have at least two feet at each end), and a minimum diameter of four inches (flat blades require a four inch cross section) over the entire striking surface, then it is considered Great and becomes Red when wielded two-handed in a slashing or bludgeoning manner— Never when used to stab or pierce.

When myself, Bran, and Sita first joined, we had a little trouble finding the park the first couple weeks (and in retrospect, had trouble figuring out why we had trouble), We had our swords ready, we played with them a few times before we went out.

First real day, Seth, then champion*, checked our swords, found so many things wrong with them it's not funny, and was shocked and a little horrified when he learned that we actually hit each other with them.

I suggest seeing a sword first before making one; or be ready to take your first attempt(s) apart to rebuild. Weeks there's interest, Thistledown, the current regent** will hold an Arts and Science (crafting) evening at his house.

*The Champion is the person who handles safety of equipment and runs daily games. The current champion in Mask; he's not on the boards very often.

**The Regent handles A&S - Arts and Sciences and a couple other things

Just show up at the park on Sunday. There is always extra equipment for new people to borrow, and you can get a feel for what you actually like to fight with: not just what sounds cool.
As for persona names: you don't have to make one up, but if you don't you might get one made up for you. Those kind of names are never very flattering.

Not bad. He managed to avoid any of the "Flurb Quotient" triggers. Colors, metals, shadow/bone/blade/blood/etc.

Yes, you can change your name as often as you like! It can get confusing, but it is your choice.

Whether it stays changed... well that's the fun part. I swear we are all very nice people. No really. You have to believe someone with a perfectly innocent face right?

Advice from a crusty old Amtgardian:

1. Put the howitzer down. Long Swords are bad.

2. Don't sweat the small stuff. Name is one of these things. In fact, there's a very high probability that it will get changed, mutilated, or ignored completely. For example, Your current choice could be turned into Fang, Fangluvin, Luvin, Fang McLovin, etc. Live with it - it's a good sign.

My own name has suffered over the years (and no, it's not my original. But it's much better now) .. hell .. depending on where I'm @ and who is addressing me .. I'm either Brigade, Brig, B, Hippy, Hippy Faggot, Long Hair, Ray, or Mischief.

It happens, it's part of the fun of the game. Don't take anything too seriously.
No, you're wrong. And I'm not going to waste my time arguing with you. - Sir Shef
