I actually think it's kind of a novel idea. While we pride ourselves on the honor system, this would be a simple and effective way to check without having to take apart a weapon. I don't know if it's sensitive enough to pick up something like a penny in the cloth or a roll of nickels in the handle as backweight, but it might actually work.

My brother raised an interesting point recently. The golf shafts we use for weapons are usually made from some form of carbon fiber, right? Well, he noted that carbon fiber can be impregnated with various metals to improve durability, flex or temperature resistance. I don't know if this is the case for graphite golf club shafts, but it wouldn't surprise me since stainless steel shafts are somewhat common for irons; some companies probably do it. Admittedly, this is on the verge of minutia since the shaft still functions much more like carbon fiber than metal, but it could technically be a violation of the rules. I don't quite know what to think about that, but I thought I'd share.

Current graphite shafts weigh considerably less than their steel counterparts. We're talking 40-90 grams for a graphite shaft or 90-130 grams for steel shafts. As far as flex goes, all shafts are made with varying degrees of flex to fit golfer preference.

Metal golf club shafts, with very few exceptions, are made out of steel. Could you point me towards some metal non-steel shafts online?

I had a feeling this is what you were going to point to. Clubs labeled "titanium" have titanium heads, not shafts. Some companies make shafts that have a titanium filament, but the shafts are still primarily graphite.

PAG wrote:Note2: How are you finding the shaft weight? All the weights I can find are with the head attached. :( Golf clubs do need some momentum to work properly, so you'll often find very dense heads on the more expensive clubs, heads that the ball really 'bounces' off of due to the difference in mass.

My weight information came from wikipedia and a couple manufacturer websites I double checked with.

Hey PAG, I went to the site you posted. As Grix noted, it is ONLY the head that is Titanium. I looked at the options for that club, and low and behold, every available shaft is GRAPHITE.

Question: does a metal detector detect aluminum? it is a non-magnetic metal. So I'm not sure if it would detect.

I guess it all comes down to what the Champion of the Land wants to do. Let me know, when you get elected to Champion (or qualify) I'll be intested in the results.
