New Member looking for Close Location

Postby Aravis » Sun Jun 09, 2013 12:59 pm

Hi, I'm Aravis.
I just moved to LA from Ohio, but last year I was in New York and was part of Shire of Empire Grove, who met in central park. I live in Burbank and I'm looking to transfer to a nearby location, but I'm not sure where that would be. Are there any clans near Burbank? I also don't have a car, so it's a bit difficult for me to get around.

Please let me know if you can offer any information!

Thanks
Aravis

I believe the closest to you is either Siar Gaeta (San Diego) or Seven Sleeping Dragons in San Luis Obispo all the other parks near you have disbanded

Where are you located in LA? There are plenty of groups in the area that I can point you towards. Might even be able to get some old timers to start coming out again.

Is there anyone in the Burbank area who would join or start up a clan again?

There's Crimson Sanctum in La Cañada, and Eldritch Hills in East Pasadena. Though both are currently defunct, I'm sure there are Amtgarders up there that want to restart their parks. We have sub-forms for both of these locations and you can ask and see if any would be willing to jump start it again. And Siar Geata isn't in San Diego (city), we're in Carlsbad so a bit further north then San Diego.

Okay, how would I contact people in East Pasadena?
And:
Would it be possible to start up my own clan in Burbank? How would I go about it?

You can PM Uranaga here on the forums. Search him out on the memberlist or find one of his posts and click on the little "PM" button.

More information on the basics of starting a chapter are on the Amtgard.com Starting a Chapter page. I've never had to do it, but I understand it takes a lot of leg work. You gotta get flyers, cards, words out and talk the game up to a lot of people whenever you get the chance. Local gaming shops are probably a good location to check, as well as schools and classified papers/websites.

I would rather rez an old chapter then start new. We have so many de-funked chapters in SoCal it looks bad.

Or we could just do away with the old husks and try fresh... again...? I dunno. It's for the folks down there to decide.

I just hope Amtgard happens where Amtgard is wanted.

Well SG used to be held in Escondido, we're considered an Oceanside chapter, but we actually meet in Carlsbad. I don't see why you can't just start up the old chapter in a different place, especially considering East Pasadena is so close. It wouldn't be unreasonable to try and start up Eldritch Hills again.

The thing is I don't have a car and my friend who lives in Pasadena isn't really interested in amtgard, unfortunately, so I'm looking for the closest place to Burbank possible. Also I'm pretty new to it, so I'm not quite sure what to do. All I know is I want to get back in the game! :P
