Wooden armor?

Postby GALE StrongHammer » Mon Apr 14, 2014 12:26 am

So I've been going over ideas for armor building lately and have noticed a whole lot of nothing pertaining to wooden armor in Amtgard. Anyone got any ideas on that?

I mean, there are several historical instances of wooden armor. The main one I've found has been the armor of the Tlingit people.

Also from Kagamil Island, Aleutian Islands, Alaska:

So if someone came to your park in wooden armor, would you allow it? What rating would you give it?

The short answer is it depends on how it is made. If it is actually made well, and looks like armor, I will give it points. The big thing, is weight and protective value. Does it weigh as much as the type they are trying to compare, is the wood thick/hard enough to protect them as well. Thin wood, I would say, is about the same as hardened leather. I can't tell the thickness nor hardness of the examples you posted, but I would guess the 2 to 3 point range.

For this sort of thing I think making a super dope set of wood armor (or even a bracer, etc) and bringing it to the field as an example is the thing that will convince people. Pretty much what happened with plastidip weapons.
