aligning coronations with Darkshore

I am interested in getting feedback on everyone's feelings about getting all coronations back in line to have coronation activities at the largest Californa event -- Darkshore. At this time, and for the forseeable future, Wavehaven will be the sole source for this event--running, coordinating and all other responsibilities (with volunteer help as they request).

Some advantages for this include: Holding coronation at an established event, the minimal required financial backing of other groups, and perhaps the ability to enhance an already well-known and successful California Amtgard Event. In addition, working to enhance Darkshore will benefit all groups as a stepping stone for getting knowledge of coordination and organization of a larger event and to assist Westmarch in putting forth her own well-done event. Finally it will further the attempts to bring more unity of Westmarch sublands as we unite towards a common cause in doing set-up, assisting with meals and advertising this event both within and outside of California.

Disadvantages would include: limiting an elected Principality Regent's ability to perform their set forth duties as listed in the corpora (i e coronation feast, arts and sciences events, etc.). In addition, a perception could be created outside of California that Westmarch is not able to organize and maintain an independent event, which could impact and/or delay a promotion to Kingdom status. Kingdom status is potentially several years away, but it is a long-term goal for the Principality.

I have been assured that Court will be allowed to happen at Darkshore and Wavehaven is committed to maintaining the excellence of the organization and history of Darkshore and that there is a lot of personal investiture to the event's success and the ability for other California groups to participate in that success. However, Wavehaven is adament about maintaining control of the coordination of the event.

Westmarc is experiencing some growing pains and needs to work on ways to establish a cohesive and united group. Working with Wavehaven to enhance their efforts in coordinating a well-organized event may be a way that Westmarch can develop engagement in the Principality's future development.

I believe that We should have coronation aligned with Darkshore. We are starting to have some national notice for our bigger events and with Darkshore being the largest is should be the crowing of our Monarchy. As of right now WH is still running the event, this will allow us to take steps in making WM a larger and stronger land. We can continue this tradition until Westmarch and Wavehaven are ready to make it a Westmarch event.

-Any- large events in California are going to be viewed the same way... most people could care less which sub land officially hosts the event.

In short, the outside perception issue may be much smaller than you think.

Hey is 100% right in that when I go out of Ca, everyone asks about that big WM event called Darkshore. Not that WH event.

just like when we go to clan, rakis or salt wars, we dont think about which specific land we're going to, we just know its burning lands, iron mountains or desert winds. we already do court there anyways, might well just make it official. westmarch could prob even help lighten the funding burden a little off of wavehaven to help facilitate the whole process. i dunno, just an idea

I also think that the WM regent can still run the coronation feast and court. The last few Darkshores WH has asked other lands to take care of a meal. The Sat night feast and court could still be a WM event and the regent can still plan and run it.

That would be up to the autocrat of the event. Potentially, the WM regent can also coordinate the contributions from the other lands for the Wavehaven coordinators.

Also, there are financial considerations. Funds would potentially have to be approved for use by Westmarch and compensation from the event fee may have to be negotiated with Wavehaven if funds are allocated.

It could be a viable solution for Westmarch providing we can match the standards expected by Wavehaven.

I think by "DS" she meant Darkshore, Kel.

By aligning the Principality's coronation to Darkshore, we'd effectively be changing all the lands coronation schedule as well. As mentioned, Wavehaven has offered to allow all the lands to hold their court at Darkshore. It's been a tradition for as long as I've known of it.

We should consider holding court on Friday, and then again on Saturday. Friday's court would be more informal and for individual land stuff, then Saturday's court would be for WM stuff. Split courts seem to have been successful for DW and other groups similar to ours.
